Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Community Living
Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland

Position Summary
HAVE Support is seeking compassionate and dependable Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in a Community Living home. DSPs assist individuals with daily living activities, community integration, and personal development while promoting independence, dignity, and safety.
The DSP plays a critical role in implementing the participant’s Person-Centered Plan (PCP) and supporting individuals in achieving their personal goals in a safe and supportive home environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerson-Centered Support
- Provide direct care and supervision to individuals in a Community Living residential setting
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, and mobility
- Support participants in achieving goals outlined in their Person-Centered Plan (PCP)
Community Engagement
- Assist individuals in participating in community activities, social events, and recreational opportunities
- Encourage independence and skill development
- Support transportation to appointments, programs, and community activities
Health & Safety
- Monitor participant health and well-being
- Administer medications in accordance with Maryland Medication Technician (CMT) guidelines
- Follow all health, safety, and emergency protocols
- Maintain a safe and clean living environment
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete daily progress notes and service documentation
- Track and report any incidents, behavioral changes, or health concerns
- Assist with documentation related to DDA compliance and service delivery
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, nurses, behavioral specialists, and case managers
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions
- Support the implementation of Behavior Support Plans (BSP) when applicable
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass criminal background check
- Ability to complete DDA-required training
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
- CMT (Certified Medication Technician) certification
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Experience in community living or residential support
Physical Requirements
- Ability to assist with mobility and transfers when needed
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to remain active throughout the shift
