Job Summary

The CAD Design Technician uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed 2D and 3D models for engineering and manufacturing projects. This role supports electrical design and drafting efforts by developing accurate drawings based on engineering requirements and field data.
Job Description
- Create detailed electrical drawings such as power and control wiring diagrams, instrumentation loops, schematics, cable tray layouts, and cable schedules
- Produce accurate 2D/3D AutoCAD drawings based on field findings and engineering direction
- Ensure drawings comply with internal standards, safety requirements, and industry codes
- Conduct on-site field visits to gather measurements and verify installations
- Document field conditions including measurements, equipment labeling, routing, and site photos
- Translate field data into updated engineering drawings
- Interface with plant personnel to clarify layouts and electrical infrastructure
- Collaborate with engineers and designers throughout design and review processes
- Support design reviews with updates, clarifications, and field verification
- Maintain organized documentation and revision control across projects
Skills Required
- 7 years of CAD design/drafting experience, preferably in electrical power and control systems
- Strong AutoCAD expertise (2D and 3D drafting)
- Ability to create and modify complex electrical drawings
- Knowledge of electrical design principles, including breaker sizing, load calculations, and power distribution layouts
- Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems
- Ability to read, interpret, and update one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and equipment lists
- Experience with field data collection, measurements, and documentation
- Ability to translate real-world conditions into accurate engineering drawings
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong documentation and revision control practices
- Ability to collaborate with engineers, designers, and plant personnel
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
Education/Training/Certifications
- Associate’s degree, completion of a 2-year trade or military school, or at least 2 years of relevant work experience
Additional Requirements
- Must pass a drug screening and criminal background checks
- Shift Start: 08:00 AM
- Estimated travel of ~25% for field visits
- Occasional driving for site visits (primarily local)
- Willingness to travel to locations including Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa
- Ability to work in both office and field environments
Pay Rate/Salary
- Estimated Salary: $54.53 to $62.53 per hour. Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors.
