District Technician

 

Job Summary:

The District Technician provides support and maintains the technology needs of the district; documenting information, maintaining and resolving immediate operational and safety concerns.

 

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent 

 

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Staff.

 

Reports to:

Director of Technology 

 

Terms of Employment:

This is a full-time, 12-month position covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement in the Technician category. Compensation is hourly, with pay and benefits determined by the Board of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Focuses on customer service, creating a positive climate of respect and trust. 
  2. Maintains technology hardware inventory. 
  3. Provides Tier 1 onsite support for all buildings. 
  4. Participates in training and meetings, staff meetings, District committees, seminars, conferences, etc.
  5. Maintains strong communication with employees.  
  6. Receives and responds to emails, written correspondence, and telephone inquiries in a timely manner. 
  7. Maintains data related to the district and department goals to assist in the evaluation

of reports, decisions, and results. 

  1. Makes recommendations for continuous improvement in the efficiency of department and services performed.
  2. Troubleshoots system problems and implements appropriate solutions. 
  3. Displays ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  4. Protects the confidentiality of records and information about staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines. 
  5. Adheres to federal statutes and regulations, Illinois school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
  6. Performs other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Director of Technology or designee or as needs arise. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of Windows operating systems
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of PC and Printer hardware repair
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude toward work assignments
  • Must maintain positive and respectful relationships with other employees and the general public 
  • Must demonstrate a record of effectiveness in their work
  • Must have excellent planning and organization skills
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Must be able to perform several tasks concurrently under varying deadlines
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, including clear, polite telephone communication skills
  • Must be able to work efficiently under minimum supervision
  • Willing to work between buildings daily
  • Assists teachers with planning classroom activities using technology as assigned by the supervisor

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Employees may reach overhead as well as above the shoulders and horizontally and occasionally move or lift items up to 50 pounds. Regular attendance on the job is expected.
