POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Sales Associate at Hartville Hardware, you will be a key part of our sales floor — greeting guests, sharing product knowledge, and helping customers find exactly what they need to complete their home improvement projects. Whether advising on fixtures, outdoor living products, tools, or décor, you bring genuine enthusiasm and expert guidance to every interaction.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
CUSTOMER SERVICE & SALES
- Greet and assist guests with enthusiasm, professionalism, and genuine product knowledge
- Engage guests in meaningful conversations to understand their project needs and preferences
- Provide expert advice and personalized product recommendations to help guests make confident decisions
- Effectively communicate product features, benefits, and installation requirements
- Upsell and cross-sell complementary products to enhance the customer's overall experience
- Actively promote products to meet or exceed department sales targets
- Follow up with guests to ensure satisfaction and explore additional product offerings
- Address customer inquiries, concerns, returns, exchanges, and warranty-related issues professionally
PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned department inventory
- Stay current on industry trends, new product releases, and home improvement innovations
- Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to stay informed on new products and developments
MERCHANDISING & INVENTORY
- Ensure your department is well-organized, clean, and visually appealing at all times
- Collaborate with the merchandising team to create displays that showcase featured products effectively
- Stock and arrange shelving and displays using an 8-foot ladder as needed
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs to the inventory control team
- Conduct regular checks for damaged or defective merchandise and initiate necessary actions
- Ensure all products are properly labeled, tagged, and priced
TEAM COLLABORATION
- Work closely with team members, department managers, and customer service staff to meet store goals
- Participate in team meetings, product training sessions, and sales strategy discussions
- Use point-of-sale systems and store technology accurately to process transactions
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Previous experience in retail sales, preferably in home improvement, home fixtures, outdoor living, or a related category
- Strong product knowledge and genuine enthusiasm for home improvement products
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — you enjoy working with and helping people
- A passion for home improvement with an eye for design and practical product application
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented retail environment
- Basic computer skills for point-of-sale transactions and product information retrieval
- Comfortable climbing an 8-foot ladder to stock and maintain the department
- Availability for evenings and weekends required
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or certification in interior design or a related field is a plus
