The Hospice RN Clinical Lead is a dedicated leadership role responsible for supporting clinical staff, ensuring high-quality patient care, and driving compliance and operational excellence across the hospice program. This position does not carry a patient caseload and is not required to participate in on-call, weekends, or holidays, allowing full focus on staff support, quality oversight, and clinical leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Support
- Serve as the primary clinical resource for all field staff (RNCMs, LPNs)
- Coordinate and conduct orientation for newly hired clinical staff
- Provide real-time support for complex symptom management and patient care issues
- Provide ongoing education related to hospice philosophy, regulations, policies, and clinical best practices
- Respond to staff questions and escalate concerns appropriately
- Perform joint visits as needed for education, support, or quality concerns
- Collaborate with leadership to identify educational needs based on quality outcomes, audits, or regulatory changes.
Quality & Compliance Oversight
- Conduct routine checks on charting in the facilities
- Ensure adherence to Harmony Hospice Policies and Procedures
- Identify trends and implement performance improvement initiatives
Staff Development & Mentorship
- Lead onboarding and orientation for new clinical staff
- Provide ongoing education, coaching, and competency validation
- Mentor staff in clinical skills, documentation, and critical thinking
- Address performance concerns in collaboration with leadership
Care Coordination & IDT Involvement
- Participate in IDT meetings to provide clinical oversight and recommendations
- Ensure appropriate care planning and follow-through across disciplines
- Assist with escalations related to hospitalizations, symptom crises, or service concerns
Operational & Workflow Support
- Assist with daily clinical operations and staffing coordination as needed
- Support triage processes and problem-solve barriers to care delivery
- Collaborate with leadership to improve workflows and staff efficiency
- Assist with the implementation of new programs and initiatives
Qualifications
- Current RN license in the state of practice
- Minimum of 3 years hospice or palliative care experience
- Prior leadership, preceptor, or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of end-of-life care and symptom management
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Schedule & Work Expectations
- Full-time, primarily weekday schedule
- No caseload responsibilities
- No on-call, weekends, or holiday requirements
- Field presence required for staff support, joint visits, and facility relationships
