Build Your Career on a Solid Foundation: Sales or Management Trainee
A century of history. A future built by you.
At Harbin Lumber Company, we don’t just sell lumber; we provide the backbone for homes, businesses, and communities. We’ve been a staple in the industry for over 100 years, surviving every economic shift by prioritizing integrity, quality, and—most importantly—our people.
We are looking for those excited in an opportunity for a career in sales and the next generation of leaders to join our Rising S.T.A.R. program. No matter which path you ultimately take, we want you to know that this isn’t a "sit behind a desk" internship; it’s an immersive, hands-on journey designed to turn high-potential individuals into industry experts.
The Program: Your Training Roadmap
To start your career in sales or management, you have to know how this industry breathes. This program requires flexibility and a travel-ready mindset, as you will rotate through multiple locations to learn our operations from the ground up.
- Phase 1: Operations & Inventory: Learn the material. You’ll spend time in our yards, plants and warehouses understanding species, grades, manufacturing and logistics.
- Phase 2: Counter & Contractor Sales: Master the art of the deal. You’ll work directly with our long-term professional clients and DIYers as you work “inside out” to learn how to best help our customers, from our local, experienced sales staff.
- Phase 3: Back-Office & Leadership: Understand the "why" behind the "what." You’ll dive into planning, budgets, team management, and strategic growth.
What You Bring to the Table
- Adaptability: You’re comfortable being the "new person" at a branch every few months and can build rapport quickly with different teams.
- Grit: You aren’t afraid to get your boots dirty in the yard or stay late to help finish a quote.
- Ambition: No matter the direction you choose, whether you have a natural "closer" instinct for sales or the emotional intelligence required for management, bring your drive to learn, grow and serve our customers, coworkers and communities.
- Mobility: Reliable transportation and a willingness to travel/rotate between locations is required.
