What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Veterinary Technician position at Happy Tails Animal Hospital?
Happy Tails Animal Hospital is looking for Veterinary Technicians to join our amazing team! We are a 2.5 doctor practice and are currently expanding. We provide top quality, compassionate, and personalized care to our patients, while paying close attention to educating owners so that they can make the best choices for their pets!
We offer our patients wellness, sick, and surgical services that include soft tissue surgeries and advanced dentistry. We utilize the following technologies: digital radiography (including dental), electronic medical records (cornerstone software), and full service in house lab including Idexx lab machines.
We are looking for EXPERIENCED individuals that are passionate about the field of veterinary medicine, and that passion is reflected in their daily activities with the care they provide. Candidates should be excellent communicators, reliable, compassionate, calm and level headed in stressful situations, and enjoy interacting with pets and people! Team members will thrive in our cohesive, fun and supportive environment, but should also be able to work independently and efficiently multitask without prompting.
This is a full-time position of 35-40 hours per week. ***No nighttime shifts and no weekend treatment shifts after office hours!*** Technicians work a consistent schedule every week, with 1 regular full weekday off per week.
The hourly rate is dependent upon skill level. Candidates should have experience with anesthesia and surgery. Being able to independently calculate drug dosages, administer anesthesia, and monitor/interpret all vital patient parameters while under anesthesia is considered an essential skill to be considered for this open position. Anesthesia monitoring for our surgical patients includes pulse oximetry, ECG, blood pressure (including Doppler), indwelling rectal thermometer, and capnography. Knowledge of Cornerstone veterinary software is considered a plus, but is not required.
Here are a list of the skills we are looking for in and an individual:
- Surgery techniques - including intubating patients, aseptic surgical technique, assisting in surgery when needed (ie. scrub, gown and glove to assist the doctor in surgery), and set up of surgery equipment (heating devices, anesthesia monitoring equipment, dental equipment including dental radiograph use.)
- INDEPENDENTLY monitoring and adjusting anesthesia based on patient vitals using pulse oximetry, capnograph, lead 2 ECG, blood pressure (both surgivet machine and doppler), and indwelling thermometer to maintain patient health and stability under anesthesia.
- Collection, preparation, and interpretation of ear cytology, skin cytology, skin scrapes, fecal floats, fecal cytology and urinalysis samples.
- Effective phlebotomy at both the jugular and peripheral vein sites on cats and dogs.
- Placing peripheral vein catheters.
- Administering SQ, IM, and IV injections, including use of appropriate aseptic technique with maintaining inpatient hospitalized animals.
- Proper restraint of animals for venipuncture, radiography, etc.
- Nail trimming/dremeling.
