Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of short order meals efficiently, maintaining consistency in taste and presentation
- Follow standardized recipes, portion controls, and food safety guidelines to ensure quality and safety standards are met
- Handle food preparation tasks such as chopping, slicing, marinating, and assembling ingredients with precision using proper knife skills
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment sanitation and proper storage of ingredients
- Assist with menu planning by suggesting daily specials or modifications based on available ingredients or customer preferences
- Ensure timely delivery of orders to guests while maintaining high levels of customer service
- Adhere to all food handling regulations and safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination and ensure food safety compliance
Experience
- Proven experience as a short order cook or in a similar fast-paced kitchen environment, preferably within diners or casual eateries
- Strong culinary skills with knowledge of food preparation techniques across various cuisines
- Experience in menu planning, meal preparation, and food presentation
- Familiarity with food safety standards, handling procedures, and sanitation practices in the food industry
- Previous restaurant experience demonstrating proficiency in cooking under pressure while maintaining quality standards
- Knowledge of dietary department practices or dietary aide experience is a plus but not required
- Excellent knife skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask efficiently in busy settings
