Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care, preparing patients for examinations and procedures.
- Takes and records vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints accurately.
- Performs phlebotomy and collects specimens as required.
- Administers injections and medications as directed by a physician.
- Documents all patient information, medical histories, and care details within the AthenaOne Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
- Assists with scheduling appointments and manages patient flow efficiently.
- Educates patients on procedures, medications, and health maintenance, ensuring clear understanding, especially for Spanish-speaking patients.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members in both English and Spanish.
- Maintains strict HIPAA Compliance and patient confidentiality at all times.
- Supports clinical staff with various administrative and clinical tasks to optimize patient care.
- Applies a comprehensive understanding of Medical Terminology in all interactions and documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Education
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification.
- Experience
- Prior experience working in a clinical or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge/Skills
- Spanish Language Proficiency: Fluent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish.
- Patient Care: Demonstrates strong patient care and customer service skills.
- Vital Signs: Proficient in accurately measuring and recording vital signs.
- Phlebotomy: Competent in performing venipuncture and specimen collection.
- Electronic Health Records (EHR): Experience with EHR systems, specifically AthenaOne.
- Medical Terminology: Possesses a solid understanding of medical terminology.
- HIPAA Compliance: Adheres strictly to HIPAA regulations and patient privacy.
- Injections: Skilled in administering injections safely and effectively.
- Scheduling: Familiar with medical appointment scheduling processes.
- Patient Education: Ability to provide clear and concise patient education.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Preferred Qualifications
- One to two years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Experience in a specialty clinic setting.
- Physical Requirements/Work Conditions
