**Job Duties/Scope Of Work**
A Deputy Fire Marshal (DFM) will be responsible for applying the principals of fire protection in the performance of his/her duties supporting the Hanford Fire Marshal's Office. DFM's are responsible for enforcing compliance with applicable Department of Energy directives, supplements and standards governing fire protection, compliance with applicable codes and standards, and compliance with contractor fire protection requirements documents and procedures, including issuance and approval of Hanford Fire Marshal permits authorizing work to be initiated or suspended in accordance with NFPA 1 and the Fire Marshal permit program.

Additionally, DFMs Will Support The Fire Marshal Through
- Review Interpretation Clarification Request (ICRs) on behalf of the Fire Marshal.
- Review and approve plans, drawings, and specifications for fire systems, water supplies, and applicable facility modifications.
- Ensure exemptions and equivalencies follow the approved format and process.
- Issue Fire Marshal findings for non-complaint items.
- Elevate unresolved fire protection findings to the Fire Marshal and senior management.
- Ensure that compensatory measures are implemented for system restrictions and impairments.
- Prepare fire system deactivation analysis.
- Review, approve, and coordinate with facility management on preparation and approvals for acceptance test procedures (ATP).
- Review and approve non-emergency hydrant tie-in permits.
- Support the Fire Marshal with setting fire protection policy and enforcement.
- Other duties as assigned.
- BA/BS degree in in Fire Protection, Safety, Engineering, or related discipline and a minimum of 10 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must currently be Deputy Fire Marshal certified or able to obtain Deputy Fire Marshal certification by passing the oral board within 12 months.
- In-depth knowledge of NFPA codes/standards, & DOE orders and standards.
- A strong ability to communicate fire prevention and risk management strategies through education and enforcement of fire protection program requirements.
- Have a high level of interpersonal communication skills and computer skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential badge.
