Teacher’s Aide Position at Hampton University Child Development Center
Description
The teacher's aide’s primary responsibility is to provide care for children in a child-initiated learning environment. This includes providing general supervision and management for a classroom of children. The teacher’s aide works with the Lead Teacher and staff on developmental activities as part of a comprehensive program for children's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth, so children can reach their highest potential.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Assist Lead Teachers with planning and facilitating a daily program of care and activities for the assigned classroom.
· Contribute to the effective operation of the overall childcare program.
· Assist the Lead Teachers with developing and implementing daily/weekly activity plans. Responsible for the arrangement of space, setting, and materials in the classroom and with outdoor play equipment, to ensure a safe, clean, orderly, child-centered learning environment, and a consistent daily schedule for children's calm, comfortable, and successful participation in the program.
· Promote a multicultural, anti-bias approach to learning and the center environment. Show respect for each child's culture, background, and personal uniqueness.
· Participate in and prepare for center promotional activities and special events as necessary or as assigned.
General Responsibilities
· Ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children.
· Maintain a professional working atmosphere and the confidentiality of information regarding staff, children, and families.
· Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Center Director.
Qualifications
Salary commensurate with Education. Experience with children preferred. Meets requirements of the Virginia Department of Education Childcare Standards for childcare centers and university requirements for physical exam and criminal background check. Willingness to be trained and certified in all state compliance requirements. Ability to lift 40 pounds. Must be available Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 5:30 PM.
