Job Summary
Position is responsible for planning, administering, coordinating, and evaluating the division's secondary instructional programs, including middle schools, high schools, alternative schools, and assigned specialty programs. The position provides leadership and support for instructional improvement, curriculum implementation, assessment, professional learning, and program effectiveness.
Essential Duties
- Provides leadership for the planning, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of secondary instructional programs, including middle schools, high schools, alternative schools, and specialty and magnet programs.
- Collaborates with school and division leaders to support effective curriculum implementation, instructional practices, academic interventions, school improvement efforts, and division academic priorities.
- Develops, implements, and monitors procedures, expectations, and accountability measures for secondary instructional programs, including grading practices, assessment administration, and academic performance.
- Assists in the development, revision, and implementation of School Board policies, administrative regulations, and division procedures related to secondary education programs and services.
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and reporting requirements related to secondary education.
- Monitors school improvement efforts, student performance data, and program outcomes to evaluate effectiveness and recommend strategies for continuous improvement.
- Develops, administers, and monitors departmental budgets and grant-funded initiatives and secures resources to support secondary education programs.
- Collaborates with the Department of Human Resources to determine staffing needs and participates in the recruitment, selection, and retention of highly qualified personnel.
- Supervises, evaluates, and supports assigned secondary teaching and learning personnel, including directors, coordinators, specialists, and other departmental staff.
- Leads the design, coordination, and evaluation of professional learning opportunities that strengthen instructional leadership and improve teaching and learning across secondary schools.
- Prepares reports, presentations, and communications and represents secondary education initiatives and outcomes to the School Board, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
- Serves as the division liaison with community organizations, higher education institutions, governmental agencies, and other external partners
- Oversees secondary summer learning and extended learning opportunities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer or Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
Must possess a Master's degree and be eligible for a Virginia License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision; a doctoral degree is preferred. Must possess successful experience in public education, including classroom teaching and educational leadership experience. Must have a minimum of three years of successful experience as a secondary school administrator. Must possess experience in budget development and program administration. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, school improvement, and current issues impacting secondary education. Must possess a demonstrated knowledge of state and federal regulations, accreditation requirements, and accountability standards governing public education programs. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate comprehensive secondary education programs. Must possess excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.
