Diesel/Truck Mechanic and Shop Foreman

Hampton County is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair County-owned vehicles and equipment, including heavy-duty and light-duty trucks, emergency vehicles, heavy equipment, and small engines.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service, and repair gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment
• Maintain fire apparatus, police vehicles, ambulances, graders, tractors, backhoes, generators, pumps, and small engines
• Perform preventive maintenance (oil changes, fluids, filters, lubrication, inspections)
• Repair engines, brakes, hydraulics, transmissions, electrical and emission systems
• Rebuild fire apparatus pumps and related equipment
• Perform welding, fabrication, plumbing, and electrical work as needed
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
• Respond to after-hours and weekend on-call repairs
• Interact with County staff, firefighters, vendors, and the public

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 3 years of experience repairing gasoline and diesel engines (or equivalent experience)
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic skills
• South Carolina Driver's License is required (mechanic certifications a plus).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and perform physically demanding work
• Ability to stand, kneel, climb, and work with hand and power tools
