What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building And Grounds Maintenance Mechanic position at Hampton County Government?
Under limited supervision, performs preventive maintenance and repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment. Performs carpentry work as required. Reports to the Solid Waste/Building and Grounds Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Ensures mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems are in proper working condition; keeps buildings in good repair.
- Responds quickly to power failures and makes necessary repairs to restore power. Diagnoses and repairs sewage problems: repairs plumbing leaks.
- Locates and repairs roof leaks.
- Checks elevator safety devices; calls for service as necessary.
- Replaces light bulbs, installs computer and telephone wiring, installs new receptacles and switches.
- Performs carpentry work to construct or repair various structures. Paints structures and furnishings as necessary.
- Moves furniture and heavy office equipment upon request. Performs minor repairs to equipment used in daily tasks.
- Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including billing invoices, work orders, etc.
- Operates and maintains a variety of equipment such as a County vehicle, electrical tools, power saws, amp probe, volt meter, hand tools, etc. Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the department Director and other County supervisors and employees.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or GED supplemented by three to five years of experience in facility maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required.
