The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Accountant to be a key pillar of our finance team. You’re a storyteller through numbers, someone who can look past the ledger to find the narrative of our growth. You are a detail-oriented professional who protects our financial integrity, bridges the gap between complex accounting standards and actionable insights, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You’ll own critical month-end processes, master our lease and asset accounting, and help build the scalable financial foundation that supports Hammitt’s growth ambitions.
Job Summary
- Lead key areas of the month-end close, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare clear, detailed journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and reserves. No clutter, just clean accounting.
- Analyze trends and key expense drivers, turning data into insight that supports leadership in decision-making.
- Manage monthly accruals (AP accruals, corporate card expenses, and employee reimbursements) with precision and integrity.
- Ensure accurate expense cutoff and recognition in accordance with GAAP.
- Review and improve AP coding monthly to ensure accurate coding, completeness, and timely processing of payments.
- Oversee lease accounting under ASC 842 and maintain the fixed asset subledger, including supporting new store build-outs.
- Partner with our sales tax service provider, operations, and retail teams to ensure financial alignment and accurate capitalization of assets.
- Collaborate with external auditors, prepare schedules and support audit-ready documentation.
- Identify opportunities to automate workflows, strengthen standardization and controls, and make our close process faster, smarter, and scalable.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or MBA preferred).
- 3 years of progressive general ledger experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in consumer products, fashion, or retail industries, ideally with NetSuite and Shopify.
- Proficient with account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, accrual accounting, fixed assets, prepaid expense management, and AP processes.
- Solid understanding of GAAP, ASC 842, and preferably ASC 606.
- Expert Excel skills (Pivot tables, Lookups, formulas).
- Strong communication and analytical abilities, written and verbal, you know how to tell a story through numbers, and present the data confidently across diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to prioritize competing demands and deliver high-quality work within shifting time frames in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- A self-starter mindset with curiosity, initiative, and a drive to challenge established norms constructively and improve every process.
- Collaborative, team-player and relationship-oriented, fostering an inclusive, positive team culture while consistently contributing to collective goals.
- Bonus points for experience with AI or automation tools (like Blue Onion or Floqast), and knowledge of sales tax compliance.
