What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping Coordinator position at Hamilton Security?
About The Role
The shipping coordinator assists the Shipping Lead and Management by coordinating all outbound freight including working with internal departments to ensure that we will meet our promise dates, organize and arrange daily freight, align freight companies for pickup, perform all needed entries within Sage to ship and invoice the shipment. Assist in freight claims and continuous improvement projects.
What You Will Do
- Follow company safety and housekeeping requirements.
- Participate in Lean initiatives and Kaizen/5S protocols and comply with processes and procedures are followed.
- Perform shipping duties including performing necessary ERP system tasks via a computer terminal.
- Responsible for scheduling timely pick-up by the carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order or alternative company procedures are followed if customer doesn't specify.
- Responsible to ensure final inspections and proper paperwork with sign offs have been provided by Operations.
- Must report defective materials or questionable conditions to the supervisor.
- Responsible for always keeping an adequate supply of shipping materials on hand.
- Required to forward a requisition for shipping materials to the Department Supervisor for approval.
- Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
- Safely operate fork truck and other material handling equipment and follow incident/accident reporting procedures.
- Excellent Attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Who we are looking for:
- Minimum of a high school education and two years of factory related experience in similar role in shipping and receiving.
- Required to read and write English, follow verbal instructions and use simple math.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Specific Knowledge and skills
- Must be able to correctly complete bills of lading and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by the major freight carriers.
- Must be capable of estimating weight and use that information to calculate the cost of shipping.
- Must be familiar with proper packaging methods and able to interpret visual aids used to convey specific packaging requirements.
- Must be familiar with the most common material handling equipment and be a licensed forklift truck operator.
- Experience with UPS/FEDEX online software is desirable.
