AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/6/2027
The Environmental Studies Program at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a focus on food systems, beginning July 1, 2027. We are seeking an interdisciplinary environmental social scientist and/or humanist whose work focuses on food studies. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work engages in urban agriculture, food systems, food justice, Indigenous foodways, or agroecology. This position will teach an intermediate course that contributes to the core curriculum, as well as electives in the Environmental Studies Program and would also contribute to both our Senior Program and our introductory course in environmental studies. The position requires institutional service including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations while contributing to a vibrant learning community that values academic freedom, creativity, and intellectual curiosity. Your cover letter should address the ways in which you would enhance the educational experience of students and further the College’s educational goals.

The person in this position would join a vibrant and growing Environmental Studies Program which focuses on preparing students to address the challenges of creating a just and sustainable future in the face of the climate crisis, environmental problems, and inequality from local to global scales. At Hamilton, students in Environmental Studies work with interdisciplinary faculty in environmental justice, environmental data science, and climate change, as well as with faculty from other disciplines to develop the skills and perspectives needed to tackle these problems.

Candidates with ABD will be considered, although candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses annually thereafter. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $94,500 to $100,360. Candidates should submit a cover letter, c.v., teaching statement and research statement and list of three references via Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/192767.
