The Art Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2027. We seek candidates with an expertise in time-based media as an artistic practice, and who integrate analog and emergent technologies in their practice and curricula. The candidate will be expected to teach video and animation at both the introductory and advanced level, and contribute to shared departmental courses, including our junior and senior level curricula, and to the College’s interdisciplinary programs in Digital Arts and Cinema Media Studies. Preference will be given to candidates that can also teach photography at the introductory level. The position requires institutional service including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations while contributing to a vibrant learning community that values academic freedom, creativity, and intellectual curiosity. The Art department at Hamilton College is a vibrant and robust department of six full-time faculty serving 15-20 concentrators per year, as well as hundreds of non-major students each year. We are fortunate to teach in a state-of-the-art building that was completed in 2014 and which supports both analog practices as well as emerging technologies across 2D, 3D and time-based media offerings. MFA and a minimum of two years teaching experience at the college level required. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $94,500 to $100,360. Candidates should submit a letter of application stating their motivation for teaching at a small, liberal arts college as well as their vision for the role of time-based media in a visual art program, curriculum vitae, a PDF with links and descriptions to up to 10 of their own time-based works, a PDF with links and descriptions to up to 20 time-based works by former students, syllabi for an introductory and advanced level course in time-based media, and the names and contact information for three references who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation upon request.
