Job Description:

We are seeking a proactive, hands-on Construction Safety Manager to lead and elevate safety practices across H2I Group. This role owns the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's safety program, helping ensure every employee goes home safe every day. As an employee-owned company, H2I expects this leader to champion an ownership mindset in which safety is more than compliance—it is a shared responsibility embedded in the culture, projects, and day-to-day decision-making of the business.

This position partners closely with leadership, project teams, field personnel, and HR/Compliance to drive a proactive safety culture across diverse specialty subcontracting operations, including work in schools, universities, laboratories, healthcare settings, athletic facilities, and other occupied environments. The role also provides oversight for fleet safety and DOT-related training and compliance for applicable employees and operations and helps manage customer and contractor prequalification requirements, whether through third-party platforms or more traditional email- and document-based processes.

Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead company-wide safety initiatives, programs, and policies across H2I Group operations.
  • Develop, enhance, and continuously improve a comprehensive safety program that supports specialty subcontracting and installation work across multiple business lines and project environments.
  • Partner with leadership to align safety goals with business performance, operational planning, and company culture.
  • Drive a proactive, zero-incident mindset through clear expectations, accountability, training, and field engagement.
  • Track, analyze, and report safety metrics such as TRIR, EMR, incident trends, near misses, corrective actions, and leading indicators.
  • Maintain and update safety policies, procedures, and training materials to align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Lead and participate in safety committee meetings and support cross-functional collaboration on company-wide improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with jobsite leaders on safety audits, JSA/JHA development, pre-task planning, and targeted training initiatives.
  • Partner with HR and leadership on policies, claims management, modified duty / return-to-work efforts, and related safety processes.
  • Serve as a primary company resource and point of contact for safety-related matters.
  • Manage customer and contractor prequalification processes, including third-party platforms as well as email- and document-based submissions, and coordinate required safety information with internal stakeholders.

Field Engagement & Support

  • Conduct regular jobsite visits, audits, and safety inspections across active project sites and field operations.
  • Partner with project managers, site leaders, and field teams to review and strengthen safe work practices in the field.
  • Monitor and help enforce project-specific safety plans, company safety standards, OSHA requirements, and customer / site-specific expectations.
  • Coach supervisors, installers, project managers, and field personnel on hazard recognition, safe work practices, and incident prevention.
  • Support jobsite readiness, including PPE, safety signage, first aid resources, emergency preparedness, and related controls.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis, and help ensure corrective actions are implemented, communicated, and sustained.
  • Support onboarding and recurring safety training for field employees and help reinforce lessons learned across teams.
  • Help ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements.

Fleet & DOT Oversight

  • Oversee fleet safety programs, driver training, and vehicle-related risk management practices.
  • Coordinate DOT training and compliance requirements for applicable employees and operations.
  • Partner with HR/Compliance to support driver qualification, MVR review processes, and required vehicle/operator documentation.
  • Partner with operations and leadership to promote safe driving practices, accident prevention, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Support vehicle incident review, investigation, and trend analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable DOT, FMCSA, and company fleet safety requirements.

Qualifications:

Required

  • 5 years of construction safety experience, preferably in commercial construction, specialty subcontracting, interior build-outs, installation, or related project environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety regulations.
  • Experience supporting safety programs across multiple job sites and, ideally, a multi-state operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence behavior, build relationships, and strengthen safety culture at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to recognize hazards, assess risk, and make sound, independent safety decisions.
  • Strong communication, coaching, presentation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, corrective action management, and safety training.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly to active jobsites and company locations.
  • Ability to access active construction sites and field environments, including walking uneven terrain, climbing ladders when needed, and wearing required PPE.
  • Regular travel to active jobsites and facilities across multiple locations and states as needed.

Preferred

  • OSHA 30 (Construction).
  • CHST, ASP, CSP, or similar professional safety certification.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
  • Experience with safety compliance or contractor prequalification platforms such as ISNetworld, Avetta, or similar systems.
  • Experience with fleet safety, DOT training oversight, or vehicle-related compliance support.
