Director of Branch Administration and Operations

GW Murphy, INC
Hammond, IN Part Time
POSTED ON 10/22/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/20/2026
We are seeking an accomplished Director of Administration and Operations to own people, process, and branch execution across a multi-location network of branches and distribution operations supporting roofing and related building-material products. This highly visible role connects executive priorities with field execution, strengthens accountability, develops leaders, and improves safety, service, quality, productivity, and financial performance in partnership with production, wholesale, and fleet, facilities, and safety leadership.

The ideal candidate is a practical, data-driven operator who can move confidently between strategic planning and frontline execution. This position requires regular engagement with branch managers, production leaders, administrative teams, and cross-functional partners, with travel of up to 75%.

What You Will Do:

  • Directly supervise, lead, coach, and hold Branch Managers accountable as direct reports while providing leadership to administrative teams.
  • Translate executive priorities into clear operating plans, measurable expectations, and disciplined followthrough.
  • Standardize critical workflows, policies, documentation, decision guidelines, and accountability practices.
  • Improve receiving, storage, inventory accuracy, order fulfillment, material flow, and customer service while directly managing production processes, continuous improvement, and production personnel. Wholesale leadership owns production goals, targets, demand priorities, and inventory movement.
  • Monitor branch, distribution, and production performance with clearly separated accountability: the Director owns production process management, continuous improvement, and production personnel, while wholesale leadership owns production goals, targets, priorities, and inventory movement.
  • Use ERP, warehouse, production, transportation, and businessintelligence data to identify trends and lead corrective action.
  • Lead crossfunctional projects, systems implementations, process changes, and organizational transitions from planning through stabilization.
  • Develop branch and operational leaders through coaching, performance management, delegation, and succession planning.
  • Champion a safetyfirst culture and support compliance with applicable OSHA, DOT, environmental, quality, and company requirements.
  • Work in close alignment with the Director of Fleet, Facilities and Safety on fleet, facility, safety, compliance, capital, branch, and production priorities. During an absence of the Director of Administration and Operations, the Director of Fleet, Facilities and Safety will provide interim coverage in conjunction with the Vice President of Administration and Operations.
  • Maintain a strong field presence through branch visits, operational reviews, implementation support, and leadership engagement.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management, supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, organizational leadership, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Typically 10 or more years of progressively responsible operations leadership experience in multisite distribution, branch, warehouse, production, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in roofing, building materials, construction products, lumber, exterior products, or a related industrial distribution environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success with budgeting, KPI management, labor planning, inventory control, production planning, process improvement, and organizational change.
  • Proven ability to develop managers, lead through transitions, and influence across functions and locations.
  • Strong communication, presentation, problemsolving, projectmanagement, and decisionmaking skills.
  • Working knowledge of operational safety, quality, DOT, OSHA, and environmental requirements preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and operational reporting systems; Lean, Six Sigma, projectmanagement, or supplychain certification is a plus.

How Success Will Be Measured:

  • Consistent execution of company standards across branches, distribution operations, and production facilities.
  • Improved safety performance, inventory accuracy, service levels, productivity, quality, and cost control.
  • Timely completion of operational, administrative, systems, and capital initiatives.
  • Stronger leadership capability, succession depth, communication, and accountability.
  • Documented, scalable, and auditable operating practices with clear ownership.

Work Environment and Travel:

This role operates across office, branch, warehouse, distribution, production, and field environments. Travel of up to 75% is required and may include overnight stays and occasional travel outside normal business hours. Reliable transportation and the ability to remain accessible while traveling are essential.

Why This Role Matters

This is an opportunity to shape how a growing, multi-location organization operates. The Director of Administration and Operations will have a direct impact on leadership development, operational discipline, customer service, business continuity, and long-term scalability.
