Position Overview
The Summer Settlements Intern will work directly with the Settlements Team to support the validation, reconciliation, and reporting functions of Guzman Energy’s wholesale power operations. This internship offers a hands-on exposure to energy market settlements, including ISO/RTO invoice reconciliation, P&L reporting, load checkouts, transmission invoicing, RECs, energy compliance, and bilateral trade processing. The Settlements Intern will collaborate with the Trading, Risk, Accounting, and Operations teams to support cross-functional initiatives and develop a practical understanding of how electricity market’s function.
This is a paid, in-person internship based in Guzman Energy’s Denver, CO office, ideal for students interested in the intersection of finance, energy markets, and accounting.
Internship Duration: 8–12 weeks during Summer 2026 (May–August, depending on academic calendar)
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in reconciling ISO/RTO market shadow settlements, invoices, and settlement details against internal records
- Support the team in validating physical and financial bilateral trading invoices
- Help maintain P&L reporting and contribute to daily and weekly financial reporting processes
- Assist with Renewable Energy Credit settlement reconciliation and general checkout activities
- Help validate monthly load checkouts by reconciling monthly totals and understanding contract requirement forecasts to support accurate billing
- Research settlement rules, timelines, and supporting documentation for various ISO/RTO markets
- Assist in the preparation of settlement compliance reporting for trading, risk, accounting, and market operations teams
- Assist with transmission invoice processing and tariff changes
- Support the preparation of financial reports including invoice summaries, settlement statements, and variance analyses for the accounting team
- Participate in special projects including process improvement, system documentation, and ad hoc analysis
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program in Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related field
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detail when working with data
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills including spreadsheet modeling or data analysis preferred
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments with a high degree of accuracy and meet deadlines
- Interest in energy markets, wholesale electricity trading, or utility operations
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion and integrity
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or advanced degree in a quantitative, financial, or energy-related field
- Rising junior or senior with a GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Prior coursework or internship experience in finance, accounting, financial modeling, or energy-related fields
- Exposure to ISO/RTO market fundamentals or wholesale electricity market concepts
- Familiarity with ERP systems or business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Experience with data reconciliation or financial reporting in an academic or professional setting

Location & Work Environment
