SUD Clinician

Location: Located near Richmond, VA

Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000 annually

Setting: Residential Behavioral Health Facility

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Clinician to join our residential behavioral health team. This individual will provide individual and group counseling to clients receiving treatment for substance use disorders while collaborating with an interdisciplinary treatment team to support recovery, relapse prevention, and long-term success. The ideal candidate is passionate about addiction treatment, evidence-based care, and helping clients build sustainable recovery plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary substance use counselor for an assigned caseload of clients.
  • Complete substance use assessments and contribute to comprehensive biopsychosocial evaluations.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans focused on recovery goals and substance use treatment.
  • Provide individual counseling, relapse prevention counseling, and psychoeducational services.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups, including relapse prevention, recovery education, life skills, and other evidence-based programming.
  • Collaborate closely with therapists, medical providers, nursing staff, case managers, and the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and provide clinical recommendations regarding client progress.
  • Develop discharge plans and aftercare recommendations that support long-term recovery.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation within the electronic health record.
  • Communicate with approved family members and referral sources to support continuity of care.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust treatment interventions as clinically appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Health, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Current Virginia certification or licensure as a CSAC, QMHP, LPC, or other qualified behavioral health credential (or license eligible, where applicable).
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based addiction treatment, relapse prevention, and recovery-oriented care.
  • Strong assessment, counseling, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment environment.
  • Experience utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete background screening and drug testing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in residential behavioral health or substance use treatment.
  • Experience facilitating therapeutic and psychoeducational groups.
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission standards and behavioral health documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Schedule

  • Full-time
  • Schedule may include evenings, weekends, or holidays based on client census and program needs.
