Position Summary

The Clinical Director provides leadership and oversight for all clinical and therapeutic services within the facility. This individual ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based behavioral health treatment while maintaining compliance with all applicable state, federal, and accreditation standards.

The Clinical Director oversees clinical staff, program development, documentation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance while fostering a collaborative, patient-centered culture.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

• Provide overall leadership and oversight of all clinical and therapeutic services.
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based clinical care.
• Monitor clinical programming, including individual therapy, group therapy, assessments, and specialty services.
• Oversee treatment planning and clinical documentation.
• Audit clinical records within the electronic health record (EHR) to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Maintain compliance with all licensing, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.

Staff Leadership & Development

• Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, and mentor clinical staff.
• Provide regular clinical supervision and performance coaching.
• Develop and document individualized supervision plans.
• Ensure clinical staff complete required training and maintain professional competencies.
• Coordinate and provide at least 20 hours of annual in-service education for clinical staff.

Program & Operational Management

• Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning and clinical program development.
• Develop and improve clinical policies, procedures, and workflows.
• Collaborate with physicians, interventionists, attorneys, consultants, referral partners, and other providers.
• Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Ensure ongoing compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Maintain readiness for licensing and accreditation surveys.
• Monitor quality assurance initiatives and performance improvement efforts.
• Support risk management and incident reporting processes.

Qualifications

Required Education & Licensure

• Master's or Doctoral degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field.
• Active California license as one of the following:
  • LCSW
  • LMFT
  • Licensed Psychologist

Required Experience

• Minimum one (1) year providing direct clinical services to individuals with mental health disorders.
• Minimum one (1) year supervising clinical staff.
• At least two (2) years of experience or training in a behavioral health setting, including one year involving program development for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness.

Certifications

• Current CPR/First Aid Certification
• Current TB clearance or negative TB test

• Knowledge of California behavioral health regulations and licensing requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong documentation and clinical writing abilities.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with staff, physicians, referral partners, regulators, and community stakeholders.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.

Patient Population

Age Served: Adults (18 )
Population: Individuals diagnosed with psychiatric and co-occurring mental health disorders consistent with DSM-5 criteria.

The Clinical Director is expected to:

• Maintain compliance with all organizational policies and regulatory standards.
• Report to work consistently and perform duties in a timely and professional manner.

Safety Responsibilities

• Follow OSHA, infection control, and workplace safety standards.
• Report safety concerns and complete incident reports as required.
• Participate in emergency preparedness activities, drills, and required safety training.
• Maintain equipment and supplies in accordance with organizational procedures.

Additional Requirements

• The Clinical Director must be present on-site as necessary to effectively oversee clinical operations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education annually in behavioral health, administration, or related areas.
• Maintain documented supervision plans and provide a minimum of 20 hours of annual in-service training for clinical staff to ensure ongoing competency and regulatory compliance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the clinical operations of the organization.
