Human Resources Manager
Position Summary
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day HR operations within a fast-paced manufacturing environment of approximately 400 employees. This role partners closely with operations leadership to support workforce planning, employee relations, talent development, compliance, engagement, and performance management across hourly and salaried teams.
Reporting to the VP of People, the HR Manager serves as a trusted business partner to plant leadership while ensuring HR programs, policies, and practices are executed consistently and effectively. The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, operationally focused, and comfortable balancing strategic initiatives with hands-on execution in a dynamic manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Workforce Support
- Serve as the primary HR partner for manufacturing and operational teams.
- Provide coaching and guidance to managers on employee relations, performance management, disciplinary actions, investigations, and conflict resolution.
- Conduct prompt, fair, and thorough workplace investigations.
- Foster a positive employee experience and help drive employee engagement initiatives.
- Support employee communication and change management efforts across the facility.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Partner with hiring managers to support recruiting efforts for hourly and salaried positions.
- Help develop workforce planning strategies to support production and business growth.
- Ensure onboarding processes create a strong and compliant new hire experience.
- Monitor staffing levels, turnover trends, and hiring effectiveness.
Performance Management & Development
- Support performance review processes and manager development initiatives.
- Coach leaders on performance expectations, accountability, and employee development.
- Identify training needs and partner on implementation of learning and development programs.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain consistent application of company policies, procedures, and employment practices.
- Partner with Environmental Health & Safety and operations teams on workplace initiatives.
- Support audits, reporting, documentation, and HR recordkeeping requirements.
- Monitors leave administration, accommodations, and attendance practices in partnership with internal or external providers.
- Compensation, Benefits & HR Programs
- Support compensation and benefits administration processes.
- Assist with annual compensation review cycles and employee communication.
- Help implement and maintain HR programs, policies, and systems that support organizational goals.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Build strong relationships with plant leadership, supervisors, and employees at all levels.
- Collaborate with payroll, finance, safety, and operations teams to ensure alignment and operational effectiveness.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across HR and manufacturing operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 5–8 years of progressive HR experience, including significant experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, employee relations, and HR best practices.
- Experience supporting hourly workforces and frontline leadership teams.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and sound judgment.
- Strong communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, operationally driven environment.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting multi-shift manufacturing operations.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environments.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
Reporting Structure
- Reports to: VP of People
- Direct Reports: May oversee HR Generalist, HR Coordinator, or onsite recruiting support depending on organizational structure.
Work Environment
- This position operates in both office and manufacturing floor environments and requires regular interaction with employees and leaders throughout the facility.
- Occasional flexibility outside standard business hours may be required to support multiple shifts or business needs.
