This role requires expert knowledge of welding codes, processes, and inspection techniques, playing a critical role in the company’s quality assurance efforts. The CWI will verify compliance, lead inspection activities, support welder certification, and drive continuous improvement in welding operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections on welded components using visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing methods in accordance with AWS, ASME, and other relevant codes.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and technical documentation.
- Verify WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications) and PQR (Procedure Qualification Records) compliance.
- Conduct and document welder qualification tests and maintain certification records.
- Identify welding defects and non-conformities; issue NCRs and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed inspection records and contribute to quality reports.
- Collaborate with welding, engineering, and production teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Provide coaching and technical guidance to welders to ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Participate in internal and external quality audits.
- Ensure safety and compliance in all inspection activities.
- Required:**
- High school diploma or GED.
- Understanding AWS standards. Will train.
- 3–5 years of weld inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Deep understanding of AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, and other relevant welding codes.
- Proficient in visual inspection and common NDT methods (PT, MT preferred).
- Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Preferred:**
- Associate degree or technical training in welding or engineering.
- Experience with NDT Level II (UT, RT).
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturing.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in manufacturing and shop-floor environments with PPE.
- May require climbing ladders or accessing confined spaces for inspection.
Salary : $83,000 - $93,000
