Greer Excavating, LLC is seeking an experienced Project Estimator to manage the estimating process for commercial, municipal, and utility excavation projects across Tennessee. This salaried position plays a key role in our business development and project planning, working closely with local governments, general contractors, and internal crews to secure and price work accurately.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in excavation and underground utility estimating, strong communication skills, and a working knowledge of public project bid procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare competitive estimates and detailed takeoffs for earthwork, grading, trenching, stormwater, water/sewer, and general site development.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and bid documents for public and private projects.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed.
- Communicate directly with municipalities, counties, state agencies, and GCs regarding scope, revisions, and bid requirements.
- Source and coordinate vendor/supplier quotes and subcontractor pricing.
- Assist in project handoff to field operations upon award.
- Maintain organized records of bid tracking, awarded projects, and cost history.
Required Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in civil construction estimating (excavation, site work, or utilities required).
- Proficient in reading construction plans, specs, and site grading drawings.
- Familiarity with public bid processes (state, county, municipal).
- Experience with cost estimating software and takeoff tools (e.g., PlanSwift, HCSS, or similar).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally for pre-bid meetings/site visits.
Preferred Skills:
- Prior work with TDOT or local government bid packages.
- Familiarity with erosion control, stormwater management, or trench safety standards.
- Comfortable working under deadlines and handling multiple bids simultaneously.
- Ability to collaborate closely with field supervisors and company ownership.
