Estimator/Project Manager

Position Purpose:

The purpose of the Estimator / Project Manager Internal Projects is to analyze outside projects, estimating labor and materials costs, and communicating financial cost and project timelines to customers.

Principle Duties:

• Evaluate requests for proposals (RFPs) from clientele to gauge internal interest level and alignment with in-house capability
• Develop a manufacturing plan for proposal/cost/timeline estimation and execution of specific projects
• Plan work flow through the shop to maintain project schedules
• Prepare internal job orders as necessary
• Perform various administrative tasks as required to support the successful completion/ compliance of custom fabrication projects and their reporting requirements
• Work with VTI Purchasing and outside vendors to attain costs and lead times for purchased materials and processes where necessary
• Develop and maintain successful working relationships with custom fabrication clientele with a particular focus on customer satisfaction to maintain repeat business and opportunities
• Serve as primary point of contact or project manager for specific customers (to be determined)
• Provide support to the fabrication departments (machining, welding, electrical and assembly) to answer questions related to specific projects
• Assist machine shop with dimensional inspections
• Train to operate the laser marker
• Attend daily morning production meetings to provide updates and reports on specific projects and to understand orders and delivery schedules for all VTI projects

Qualifications and Skills:

• Seven to ten years of experience in manufacturing environment
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Knowledge of industry, machinery, and techniques
• Knowledge of proper use of measuring tools/gauges and cutting tools
• Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints and geometric tolerances
• Hands on aptitude and an understanding of standard organizational practices and manufacturing techniques
• Understanding of 2D and 3D CAD software - preferably AutoCAD and Inventor or Solid Works
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (mainly Word and Excel) and Outlook
• Excellent communication and math skills
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills coupled with strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to manage priorities and workflow
• Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
• Commitment to quality, excellence and high standards
• Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
• Available for overtime including Saturdays as required

Pay Rate and Benefits:

• A competitive compensation is offered commensurate with education and experience
