Position Summary

GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of General Manager position based at our Zanker Road Resource Management facility located at 675 Los Esteros Rd, San Jose, CA. This role’s main functions will be to manage the performance of day-to-day operations of the C&D facility. The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of facility management, including supervising/scheduling all personnel, the maintenance and operation of all facility equipment and processes, managing expenses and budgets, and is responsible for maintaining and ensure the overall safety of employees, contractors, and visitors. Additionally, oversees daily plant operations, ensures compliance with environmental and safety regulations, drives process improvements, and leads the team to achieve production, quality, and diversion targets.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

Functional Leadership

  • Translate priorities into initiatives and actions that will deliver performance objectives.
  • Ensure alignment, ownership, and accountability across field business units.
  • Collaborate with municipal partners, haulers, and contractors to ensure service expectations are met.
  • Provide reporting on diversion, tonnage, contamination rates, and operational performance.
  • Represent the facility during audits, inspections, and external stakeholder visits.

Operations

  • Collaborate with all enforcement regulatory agencies.
  • Drive standardization to reduce acquisition and maintenance cost, and complexity.
  • Ensures facility meet all Federal and State Regulations, OSHA, and local requirements.
  • Monitor budget and operating metrics while optimizing processes, procedures, and performance.
  • Maintain and update all environmental permits and necessary permits to operate.
  • Ensure all equipment, structures and infrastructure are maintained and monitors that they are repaired timely and efficiently.
  • Schedule all major maintenance projects for the facility
  • Effectively manage relationships with all outside contractors through clear communication and setting realistic expectations

Staff Management

  • Responsible for the training and development skills of the workforce by providing proper guidance and coaching.
  • Determines workflow, staffing, monitors equipment operations and maintenance, all while fostering a work environment based on teamwork and cooperation.
  • Oversee personnel needs of the locations including selecting, coaching, disciplining, training employees and evaluating their performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings with the management team, staff and safety officer.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Able to handle odors, dust or other environmental or weather-associated events
  • Ability to synthesize complex information quickly.
  • Ability to keep information confidential and private.
  • Impeccable ethics.
  • Must have excellent people skills and be a natural collaborator and educator
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint.
  • Ability to work with C-level executives, management, employees, state and local government agencies, business entities and the larger community.
  • Strong understanding of business operations.
  • Ability to handle workload in crisis or high stress events with short time frames.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class C License
  • 5 years of management experience
  • 10 years of solid waste experience
  • First Aid/CPR certifications preferred.

Language Skill

  • Proficient in English (both verbally and in writing) is required.
  • Familiarity with Spanish is considered highly favorable.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to physically push, pull and lift objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking and being at a desk in an office environment for 6-10 hours a day
  • Capable of wearing and working effectively in required safety gear, including hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and other protective equipment in industrial and outdoor work environments

Work Environment

Employees can expect exposure to industrial environments with potential variations in temperature, noise levels, and physical conditions typical of heavy equipment maintenance operations. The role requires flexibility in work schedules, including potential extended hours, on-call responsibilities, and weekend work to support continuous waste management operations. Personal protective equipment is mandatory, and the work demands adaptability in fast-paced, challenging industrial settings that prioritize safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.

Compensation And Benefits

Financial compensation will be commensurate with applicable experience. GreenWaste offers a competitive benefits package, including paid time off, holiday pay, 401K benefits, FSA, and full employee coverage for medical, dental and vision insurance .
