Position Overview:
The Grounds Foreman is responsible for leading the grounds crew in the daily maintenance and upkeep of the cemetery. This individual ensures that all tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and with the utmost respect for the sacred grounds. The ideal candidate is experienced in groundskeeping, confident in supervising others, and committed to maintaining the high standards expected in a veteran cemetery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and train grounds crew members in daily tasks and long-term projects
- Oversee mowing, trimming, landscaping, irrigation, and general grounds maintenance
- Coordinate and assist with grave preparation, site setup, and funeral service support
- Manage equipment use, maintenance schedules, and safety procedures
- Conduct inspections to ensure grounds are clean, safe, and well-maintained
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure quality control
- Work closely with cemetery management on scheduling, project planning, and special events
- Assist with snow removal as needed
- Maintain a respectful and professional atmosphere at all times
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or outdoor maintenance required
- 5 years of supervisory or crew lead experience required
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Physically able to perform labor-intensive work and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented
- Experience operating landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, tractors, etc.)
- Valid driver's license required
- A strong sense of respect and commitment to serving veterans and their families
