The Group Exercise Instructor leads safe, engaging, and effective fitness classes under the supervision of the Program Director. This role promotes wellness, supports participants, and represents the mission and values of the YMCA.
**Responsibilities**
- Lead and supervise exercise class or sport activity.
- Promotes YMCA mission.
- Fill out accident reports and turn them into the Program Director
- Ensures safety and care of the participant.
- Act as a liaison between the Program Director and participants.
- Be prompt and on time for classes.
- Sign in and out or punch in and out.
- Set up equipment or facility, and store and secure facility upon completion of activity.
- Report problems with participants or equipment to the Program Director.
- Develop a positive program philosophy.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
**Qualifications**
- Group Exercise Certification or certification to instruct a specific program.
- Knowledge, experience and ability to instruct effectively in their designated class area and deal calmly and professionally with members, participants, and supervisors.
- All YMCA staff must have, or be in the process of obtaining, CPR/AED and First Aid certification, and Child Abuse Prevention Training.
