Summary of Position:
The Great Outdoors Foundation (GOF) seeks a Development Director, a key leadership position responsible for creating, implementing and managing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support the mission and growth of GOF. This individual will play a role in leading the development department, strengthen existing donor relationships, cultivate new funding opportunities and establish systems that ensure long-term financial sustainability. This role requires a strategic thinker, skilled fundraiser and team builder who thrives in a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership and Department Building
- Design and execute a multi-year development strategy aligned with GOF’s organizational goals.
- Establish and oversee systems, processes, and tools for donor tracking, reporting and stewardship.
- Bloomerang, Asana
- Collaborate with Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, Director of Marketing and CEO to foster culture of philanthropy.
- Potential to manage development staff and lead prospect pipeline meetings.
- Fundraising and Revenue Generation
- Lead and grow all fundraising efforts including gifts <$99,000, annual giving, corporate and individuals, special events and planned giving.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors and prospects in coordination with Vice President of Strategic Partnerships.
- Oversee and maintain donor tracks and create new avenues for growth.
- Lead asset monetization and proposal development to ensure maximum revenue growth.
- Donor and Stakeholder Engagement
- Deepen relationships with current donors while identifying new prospects through networks, research and outreach.
- Coordinate with marketing on all donor communications and engagement strategies.
- Represent GOF at all events and plays a hands-on role at GOF hosted events.
- Team & Budget Management
- Collaborate on department budget in coordination with Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Director of Marketing
- Strategize department goals
- Report regularly to CEO
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative and effective relationships with donors, volunteers, board members, staff, vendors, and partner organizations.
- A proven track record of securing major gifts and managing fundraising strategies.
- Initiative and ability to work independently— self-starter.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- CRM experience and/or experience/coursework in computer science or related field preferred. Experience in Bloomerang preferred.
- Experience in building or significantly expanding a development department.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including donor communications and grant writing.
- Strategic and analytical thinker, with strong organizational, project management abilities, and attention to detail.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the Great Outdoors Foundation
- Experience working in a startup or growth-stage nonprofit environment.
- Knowledge of fundraising compliance, donor privacy, and ethical fundraising standards.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree preferred with 4-6 years’ experience in fundraising, nonprofit, and/or administrative work.
Benefits & Work Environment:
The Great Outdoors Foundation offers a flexible work environment. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for events and donor meetings. Travel within the region as needed to meet with donors, partners, and stakeholders will be required and eligible for reimbursement.
