    Granite Technical Institute – CTE – Agriculture Teacher – (1.0 FTE)


    This position is for a CTE Agriculture teacher at Granite Technical Institute for the 2026-2027 school year.

    Required Certification
    Requires one of the following:
    • a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Secondary or CTE License Area of Concentration with and Animal Science endorsements; OR
    • a valid Associate Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Secondary or CTE License Area of Concentration with and Animal Science endorsements
    • an equivalent license and endorsement in another state; or
    • a bachelor's degree in a related field including such areas as: animal science, dairy science, veterinary technology.
    • New teacher education program graduates who have not received their teaching license yet may upload a conferral letter from their university education program in lieu of their license. This letter must include the anticipated date of graduation and the specific areas in which the applicant will be licensed.


    Required Documentation - Please upload the following document with your application depending on your licensure/credential situation above:
    • In and out-of-state applicants must upload a copy of their current state license with their application in order to be considered
    • If approved for an Associate License, please upload a copy of your highest university degree AND your AEL eligibility letter in lieu of a full teaching license
    • New graduates from teacher preparation programs who have not yet received their official teaching license should upload a conferral letter from their university in place of the license. The conferral letter must be on official university letterhead and must include:
      • The degree earned
      • The anticipated graduation date
      • The type of license and content area(s) in which the candidate will be recommended to the Utah State Board of Education
      • Candidates must have officially graduated prior to the position start date. An official copy of the teaching license and degree will be required upon hire.
    • If qualifying by university degree only, applicant should upload the applicable degree when asked for a teaching license. Applicant will be required to complete requirements for a professional secondary license with all required endorsements within 3 years of hire.


    Required Knowledge and Skills
    • Ability to maintain an orderly classroom lab and outdoor environment.
    • Ability to pass all safety requirements including being able to demonstrate correct use of equipment.
    • Willingness to act as an advisor for the FFA CTSO and to integrate CTSO standards into classroom instruction.
    • Knowledge of current industry certifications related to areas of instruction and ability to support students in gaining in demand industry skills.
    • Ability and willingness to work with industry partners to align classroom instruction with skill needs of employers.
    • Ability to use and implement approved curriculum maps.
    • Ability to evaluate student academic progress through various formal and informal assessments.
    • Ability to communicate student academic progress to parents through various formats.
    • Ability and willingness to use technology to enhance student engagement.
    • Ability and willingness to collaborate and work with other professionals in Professional Learning Communities.
    • Ability and willingness to implement proficiency-based grading.
    • Ability to build a positive working relationship with students, school staff, administration business/industry partners, parents and the community.

    GRANITE SCHOOL DISTRICT – CLASSROOM TEACHER DESCRIPTION

    Job Summary
    Under the direction of the school principal, the classroom teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop the skills to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, lifelong learners and productive citizens. Teachers maintain a safe environment; establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Teachers differentiate curriculum and use effective research-based methods of instruction. Implement Proficiency-Based Grading in Student Evaluations.

    Essential Functions
    • Maintain a safe, orderly agriculture lab environment following all required safety procedures.
    • Utilize lab equipment to apply concepts found in USBE's CTE Core Curriculum.
    • Maintain and inventory equipment.
    • Build strong working relationships with industry partners to support alignment of core content to industry needs.
    • Infuse FFA, work-based learning, and hands-on, project based-learning into daily curriculum.
    • Teach the core content area(s) outlined in the USBE's Core Curriculum, and adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other approved learning activities.
    • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the child.
    • Utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction
    • Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
    • Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
    • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom through organization and appropriate discipline strategies.
    • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
    • Be familiar with and willing to implement Proficiency-Based Learning in evaluating students.
    • Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means, to discuss the student's progress.
    • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff regarding the student's academic and personal growth areas.
    • Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are essential functions of this position.
    • Create an effective learning environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
    • Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on the school campus.
    • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school district and self-selected professional growth activities.
    • Participate in faculty meetings as required.
    • Administer appropriate student attendance policies and procedures.
    • Participate in appropriate educator evaluation procedures as per district guidelines.
    • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing procedures.
    • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
    • Select and requisition books and instruction materials; maintain required inventory records.
    • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community.
    • Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
    • Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and members of the community.
    • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
    • Be a positive role model.

    Required Training and Education
    • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) approved cleared criminal background check.
    • Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Requires a valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah within the relevant "Licensure Area of Concentration" and if applicable, "Endorsement."
    • Requires passing a safety test at 100% for all equipment used in training.


    Working Environment
    • Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
    • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.


    Physical Demands

    Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects. Ability to talk or hear. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to focus. Physical demands require moving and lifting supplies, equipment, etc. up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    Physical Requirements – Not limited to the following:
    • While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is regularly required to speak and/or hear. The teacher is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The teacher is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
    • The teacher must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    • Teachers in P.E., CTE, Theatre and/or Art may be required to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
