    Hunter Jr High School – CTE Family and Consumer Science (FACS) Teacher (1.0 FTE)

    This position is for a Family Consumer Science (FACS) teacher at Hunter Jr High School for the 2026-2027 school year. The teacher may be responsible for teaching:
    • FACs A
    • FACs B
    • 6th Grade FACs

    Required Certification

    Requires one of the following:
    • a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Secondary or CTE License Area of Concentration with one or more of the following endorsements: Family & Consumer Sciences (CTE/General), Family Consumer Sciences Comprehensive, Early Childhood, Advanced Interior Design, Fashion/Textiles/Apparel, Culinary Arts, Food Science/Nutrition (Note: Teachers with specialty area endorsements will be required to be fully endorsed in all areas of instruction within three (3) years of hire);
    • a valid Associate Secondary Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Secondary or CTE License Area of Concentration with one or more of the following endorsements: Family & Consumer Sciences (CTE/General), Early Childhood, Advanced Interior Design, Fashion/Textiles/Apparel, Culinary Arts, Food Science/Nutrition (Note: Teachers with specialty area endorsements will be required to be fully endorsed in all areas of instruction within three (3) years of hire);
    • a current out-of-state license with a Family & Consumer Sciences related endorsement.
    • New graduates from teacher preparation programs who have not yet received their official teaching license should upload a conferral letter from their university in place of the license. The conferral letter must be on official university letterhead and must include:
      • The degree earned
      • The anticipated graduation date
      • The type of license and content area(s) in which the candidate will be recommended to the Utah State Board of Education
    Candidates must have officially graduated prior to the position start date. An official copy of the teaching license and degree will be required upon hire.
    • a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related field such as: Family & Consumer Sciences, Human Development & Family Studies, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Design & Merchandising, Behavioral Health;
    • Have six (6) years of documented, related, full-time occupations experience (not teaching experience) within the ten (10) years prior to the application in a field such as: fashion buyer, fashion designer, preschool instructor, and/or child care. Documentation should be included on the resume indicating duties, responsibilities, and dates of employment.

    • If approved for an Associate License, please upload your AEL eligibility letter in lieu of a full teaching license

    **Note: documentation of employment is required by USBE for endorsement, and should include a letter from a supervisor on company letterhead indicating duties, responsibilities, and dates of employment. This letter will need to be submitted to the USBE state specialist as part of the endorsement process.

    Required Knowledge and Skills
    • Ability to maintain an orderly teaching lab that meets all safety requirements.
    • Knowledge of currently industry certifications related to areas of instruction and ability to support students in gaining the skills needed to pass these certifications.
    • Willingness to lead a CTE Student Organization (FCCLA)
    • Ability and willingness to work with industry partners to align classroom instruction with skill needs of employers
    • Ability and willingness to collaborate and work with other professionals in CTE Professional Learning Communities
    • Ability to use and implement approved curriculum maps
    • Ability to evaluate student academic progress through various formal and informal assessments
    • Ability to communicate student academic progress to parents through various formats
    • Ability and willingness to use technology to enhance student engagement
    • Ability to provide hands-on training and project-based learning that aligns with CTE pathways
    • Ability and willingness to implement proficiency-based grading
    • Ability to build a positive working relationship with students, school staff, administration business partners, parents and the community
    • Knowledge and experience using computers and software
    Preferred:
    • ESL Endorsement Preferred
    • Interest in supporting extra-curricular activities.

    GRANITE SCHOOL DISTRICT – CLASSROOM TEACHER DESCRIPTION

    Job Summary
    Under the direction of the school principal, the classroom teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop the skills to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, lifelong learners and productive citizens. Teachers maintain a safe environment; establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Teachers differentiate curriculum and use effective research-based methods of instruction. Implement Proficiency-Based Grading in Student Evaluations.

    Essential Functions
    • Maintain a safe, orderly lab following all required safety procedures.
    • Utilize lab equipment to apply concepts found in USBE's CTE Core Curriculum.
    • Maintain and inventory equipment.
    • Build strong working relationships with industry partners to support alignment of core content to industry needs.
    • Teach the core content area(s) outlined in the USBE's Core Curriculum, and adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other approved learning activities.
    • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the child.
    • Utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction
    • Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
    • Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
    • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom through organization and appropriate discipline strategies.
    • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
    • Be familiar with and willing to implement Proficiency-Based Learning in evaluating students.
    • Be familiar with and willing to implement the Granite Way.
    • Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means, to discuss the student's progress.
    • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff regarding the student's academic and personal growth areas.
    • Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are essential functions of this position.
    • Create an effective learning environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
    • Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on the school campus.
    • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school district and self-selected professional growth activities.
    • Participate in faculty meetings as required.
    • Administer appropriate student attendance policies and procedures.
    • Participate in appropriate educator evaluation procedures as per district guidelines.
    • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing procedures.
    • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
    • Select and requisition books and instruction materials; maintain required inventory records.
    • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community.
    • Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
    • Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and members of the community.
    • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
    • Be a positive role model.

    Required Training and Education
    • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) approved cleared criminal background check.
    • Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Requires a valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah within the relevant "Licensure Area of Concentration" and if applicable, "Endorsement."


    Working Environment
    • Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
    • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.


    Physical Demands

    Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects. Ability to talk or hear. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to focus. Physical demands require moving and lifting supplies, equipment, etc. up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    Physical Requirements – Not limited to the following:
    • While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is regularly required to speak and/or hear. The teacher is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The teacher is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
    • The teacher must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    • Teachers in P.E., CTE, Theatre and/or Art may be required to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
