Overview:
The Canine Enrichment Specialist plays a key role in the well-being and individualized care of dogs in our enrichment program. This program is designed specifically for dogs who thrive in smaller, structured playgroups or in one-on-one settings with staff members. Our enrichment approach focuses on a balance of physical activity, mental stimulation, and emotional support to create a positive, safe, and fulfilling experience for each dog in our care.
Core Responsibilities:
- Facilitate enrichment sessions including small group play, one-on-one engagement, sensory activities, puzzle feeders, and brain games.
- Conduct rotational active play sessions outdoors throughout the day, and provide passive enrichment indoors between rotations.
- Work independently with confidence, while also collaborating and communicating effectively with the daycare team.
- Recognize and assess play styles and behaviors to determine compatibility for small group play.
- Complete group and individual evaluations as needed and place dogs appropriately within enrichment groups.
- Communicate consistently with pet parents through photos, videos, report cards, and verbal updates.
- Document behavior notes and enrichment activities in each pet's profile using the MoeGo system.
- Maintain clean, safe, and enriching environments, including outdoor play yards, indoor enrichment spaces, and activity materials.
- Clean and sanitize toys, dishes, and enrichment tools according to safety standards.
- Be willing to cross-train and provide coverage in daycare when needed.
- Remain attentive to all pets at all times to ensure safety and comfort.
Job Summary:
- Develop, implement, and sustain behavior-forward enrichment programming in a daycare and boarding setting.
- Collaborate with daycare leads and management to evaluate and evolve enrichment practices.
- Counsel and educate pet parents on behavior patterns, play style, and progress.
- Support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of dogs through structured enrichment routines.
- Typical schedule is 9-5 daily
- Must have weekend availability
Experience & Skills:
- 6 months – 1 year of experience in a pet care, training, veterinary, or animal shelter environment preferred.
- Formal behavior or training certifications are a plus, but not required—willingness to learn is essential.
- Ability to safely and confidently handle dogs of all breeds, sizes, and behavioral profiles in a humane and positive manner.
- Strong observational skills with the ability to interpret canine body language and dynamics.
- Ability to problem-solve, adapt quickly, and maintain professionalism in changing or fast-paced environments.
- Passionate, patient, and compassionate approach to working with animals.
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods of time.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions (this position is primarily outside).
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through in daily tasks and documentation.
- Flexibility in scheduling and workflow based on the needs of the facility.
