Position Overview

Grand Lake Smart Wiring is seeking a dependable, hardworking Cable Plow Operator / Telecommunications Construction Technician to join our growing team. This position is responsible for operating cable plows and other construction equipment to install underground fiber optic and telecommunications infrastructure throughout Northeast Oklahoma and the surrounding region.

The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in quality workmanship, operates equipment safely, and is committed to delivering reliable connectivity for residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers. Essential Job Duties

  • Safely operate cable plows, trenchers, mini excavators, directional boring support equipment, and other construction machinery to install underground fiber optic and communication cables.
  • Install conduit, pull fiber optic cable, and place underground telecommunications infrastructure according to engineering specifications.
  • Read and interpret utility locates, construction prints, schematics, and project plans.
  • Assist with fiber optic installations, cable placement, and restoration of work sites.
  • Assist technicians with fiber splicing, terminations, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Install aerial and underground communications infrastructure for internet service providers, municipalities, businesses, and residential customers.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, hydraulic equipment, and specialized telecommunications tools safely and efficiently.
  • Perform utility locating verification and maintain awareness of existing underground utilities before excavation.
  • Complete daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance on assigned vehicles and machinery.
  • Ensure all work complies with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and industry best practices.
  • Restore job sites by backfilling trenches, repairing disturbed areas, and maintaining a professional appearance.
  • Maintain accurate daily production reports and communicate project progress with supervisors.
  • Work closely with project managers, technicians, and customers to ensure projects are completed on time and exceed expectations.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating cable plows, trenchers, mini excavators, skid steers, or other heavy construction equipment preferred.
  • Previous telecommunications, utility construction, fiber optic, or underground infrastructure experience preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate trucks and trailers.
  • Knowledge of underground utility construction practices.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic cable installation and telecommunications infrastructure is a plus.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, utility maps, and engineering prints.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds regularly.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to pass background screening and drug testing.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 75 pounds frequently.

  • Occasionally work extended hours or overtime to complete projects.
