What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute position at Grand Isle Supervisory Union?
The Grand Isle Supervisory Union (GISU) and its member district, Folsom Education and Community Center in South Hero, VT, are seeking substitute teachers for the 2025-2026 school year. GISU and its member districts work to ensure all members of the learning community are curious, creative, courageous, and capable of pursuing their aspirations in a diverse and ever-changing world. When a planned or unplanned absence keeps our staff away from the classroom, a substitute teacher is there to fill in.
If the applicant is accepted, they will be placed on a list and receive notification either the night before or the morning of the need. From there, the substitute goes to the required class and follows the lesson plans left by the teacher. GISU utilizes an absence management system that links directly to an app that can be downloaded to a smart phone or sent to an email address, as well as phone calls from the administrative assistant. Objectives of this Role: - Maintain schedule availability to accept opportunities that arise- Uphold an orderly classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience- Familiarize yourself with emergency protocols, such as fire drills and lockdowns- Adhere to all school policies and procedures- Carry out lesson plan instructions from the classroom teacher- Take attendance according to school procedure- Create and maintain classroom control that fosters a safe and productive learning environment in accordance with school policies- Complete a report form, including absences, progress with lesson plan, disciplinary actions, positive experiences, etc.
