Job Summary
The Library Substitute will carry out routine Circulation Desk duties and serve in all departments as needed. They will provide a positive and welcoming experience to all Library visitors and assist patrons of all ages in locating library materials. The Substitute will work on library related projects as time permits.
Examples of Duties
- Greets patrons and helps in finding information and recommending books as needed.
- Provides patron assistance in locating Library materials, using the online catalog.
- Shares accurate information about library programs and services with the public.
- Performs routine circulation functions accurately, including checking items in and out, registering new patrons, updating patron information, and placing holds.
- Assists patrons in the use of library computers and equipment.
- Assists with administrative duties as needed.
- Answers telephone and directs calls.
- Shelves materials as needed.
- Reads shelves to ensure materials are in proper order.
- Enforces library policies in an appropriate manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with one year customer service experience required.
