Access Control Technician

Position Summary:

The Access Control Technician will be responsible for installing, programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting physical security systems—including electronic access control hardware, IP/analog camera surveillance systems, gates/turnstiles, and integrated security management software.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, mount, and terminate low-voltage access control hardware (card readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, electric strikes, magnetic locks, push buttons, and power supplies).
• Install, position, and calibrate IP and analog surveillance cameras (fixed, dome, PTZ, multi-sensor) and Network Video Recorders (NVRs / VMS systems).
• Pull, route, dress, label, and test low-voltage cabling (Cat5e/Cat6, composite, plenum, co-ax) through conduit, drop ceilings, cable trays, and walls per NEC and local codes.
• Install power supplies, relay modules, and control panels in head-end equipment rooms/closets.
• Program access control panels, user credentials, access levels, schedules, and door configurations using industry-standard software.
• Configure IP cameras, network switches, and NVR/VMS platforms (setting IP addresses, frame rates, motion detection zones, storage retention, and remote viewing access).
• Test and verify full system functionality, including battery backups, lock power drops, alarm triggers, and camera line-of-sight views.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance, firmware updates, and system audits on cameras and access control hardware.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and network faults (e.g., ground loops, voltage drops, short circuits, bad network drops, offline cameras, lock failure).
• Maintain accurate installation documentation, line-of-sight camera checklists, wiring schematics, and service tickets.
• Train end-users/clients on basic software operation, credential management, and video playback.

Qualifications:

• 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience installing and servicing electronic access control systems and IP video surveillance systems.
• Solid understanding of low-voltage electricity (12VDC/24VDC, AC/DC power supplies, relays, series/parallel circuits).
• Familiarity with commercial door hardware, electrified lock installation, and door strike prep.
• Knowledge of basic IP networking concepts (IP addresses, subnets, gateways, PoE standards, port forwarding, DHCP vs. static IPs).
• Access Control: Software House, LenelS2, Avigilon Access Control, Keyscan, Honeywell, Paxton, AMAG, or similar.
• Video Surveillance (VMS/CCTV): Hikvision, Dahua, Avigilon, Axis, Milestone, ExacqVision, Verkada, or Hanwha.
• State Fire/Security License (e.g., Louisiana Life Safety & Property Protection / Type A or B License).
• Manufacturer certifications (Axis, Avigilon, Lenel, Hikvision, etc.).
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Physical Demands:

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to climb ladders, operate lifts, and work at elevated heights.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual dexterity tasks (stripping, crimping, soldering, and wire dressing).
