Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Church Sexton to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of our church facilities. This vital role ensures that the church environment remains welcoming, well-maintained, and ready for worship services, community events, and other activities. The Sexton will serve as a key team member committed to supporting the spiritual and communal life of our congregation through diligent custodial and maintenance work.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of all church areas, including sanctuaries, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common spaces to ensure a pristine environment.
- Set up and break down furniture, tables, chairs, and equipment for services, meetings, and special events with efficiency and care.
- Conduct regular inspections of the church premises to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards; report issues promptly for resolution.
- Maintain security protocols by monitoring access points during events and ensuring the safety of congregants and staff.
- Assist with light repairs or coordinate with vendors for more complex maintenance tasks to keep facilities in excellent condition.
- Manage supplies inventory for cleaning products, maintenance tools, and event materials; restock as needed to ensure readiness.
- Support emergency procedures by being familiar with safety protocols and assisting in evacuation or safety drills when required.
Requirements
- Proven experience in custodial work or facility maintenance within a church or similar environment is preferred.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
- Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and vendors.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends when necessary for special events or services.
- Knowledge of safety standards related to cleaning chemicals and maintenance equipment is a plus.
