Custodian/Maintenance Worker

Part-Time Indoor Sexton/Custodian

Function:

Keep the church building and grounds clean and orderly, perform basic maintenance, and set up rooms as needed.

Qualifications:

A. Experience with building maintenance including:

● Able to safely and successfully perform all essential job responsibilities listed below

● Able to safely work with power tools such as saws and drills

● Able to climb steps and ladders safely, as well as bend, pull, and push

● Able to lift 45 lbs

● Able to plan work schedule efficiently and adjust as building usage requires

● Able to maintain an inventory of custodial supplies and equipment in an orderly fashion and maintain adequate quantities

B. Comfortable working in a faith environment that serves a variety of community groups and agencies, church members, and people with a history of or current substance use and mental health conditions

● Dedicated to the mission of the church

● Able to work collaboratively with church staff, members, community members, and volunteers

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Maintenance a. Maintain building and grounds in clean and orderly condition according to standards set by the Buildings and Grounds Committee. This includes but is not limited to:

i. Clean floors, windows, and other surfaces; maintain finishes throughout the building on a rotating basis

ii. Clean restrooms and replenish supplies

iii. Remove waste, litter, and dirt in a prompt and timely fashion

iv. Set up rooms as needed

v. Utilize and follow a work order system

vi. Replace light bulbs as needed

vii. Inspect building mechanical systems; perform other routine maintenance as scheduled

viii. Change air filters every three months and inspect monthly

B. Repair i. Assist the Building and Grounds Committee by performing minor repairs within capabilities. These may include plumbing, electrical, small appliances, furniture, etc.

ii. Assist other repair personnel as needed with access to building or work areas

iii. Report items needing repair via the work order system

C. Other

i. Follow Safe Church Policies and Complete Safe Church Training and other identified trainings (ie., Sexual Harassment)

ii. Run errands related to work as needed

iii. Other duties as assigned

Supervision:

Daily supervision will be by the Pastor or designate; accountable to the Pastor and Building and Grounds Committee for overall performance. Periodic performance reviews will be given by the Pastor and a Human Resources committee member; wage increases can be recommended based on performance review.

Schedule:

This is a 10 hours a week, part-time position. The Indoor Sexton works 2 hours daily, Monday through Friday during the hours of 10:30am-12:30pm. Additional hours and scheduling flexibility available as circumstances require.

Compensation:

Paid bi-weekly at $16/hour
