Job Summary

The Senior IT Project Manager is responsible for leading teams to successfully deliver projects from inception to completion. This position requires a deep understanding of project management methodologies, strong leadership skills, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in delivering custom software development, software package implementation, and IT infrastructure projects.

The Senior IT Project Manager develops an understanding of interdependencies between technology, operations, and business needs and partners with senior leaders to ensure projects produce the desired outcomes within the agreed constraints of quality, time, and cost. This role also contributes to developing and maturing PMO standards by participating in the creation of consistent practices, templates, policies, and tools to facilitate project success. The Senior IT Project Manager may also manage and supervise other project managers, including recruiting, training, mentoring, and performance management.

The Senior IT Project Manager plays a critical role in ensuring alignment between project delivery and enterprise strategy, driving measurable business outcomes, and advancing the maturity of project governance within the IT PMO. This individual is self-driven, results-oriented, and thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments. They demonstrate agility, resilience, and the ability to bring order to ambiguity while maintaining focus on outcomes and stakeholder alignment.

Essential Functions

  • Project Planning and Execution:
    • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, timeline, budget, and resource allocation
    • Identify and manage project risks, issues and dependencies
    • Monitor progress and adjust plans as needed to maintain alignment with objectives
    • Ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and budgets
  • Technical Leadership:
    • Partner with architects and engineers to design and deliver scalable solutions
    • Evaluate and recommend technologies and tools supporting project outcomes
    • Provide technical directions to ensure alignment between design and business requirements
  • Team Management:
    • Lead, motivate, and develop cross-functional project teams
    • Foster a collaborative team culture that promotes ownership and accountability
    • Coach and mentor team members and junior project managers
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Communicate effectively with executives, business partners, and vendors
    • Manage stakeholder expectations and proactively resolve issues
    • Facilitate decision-making, alignment, and transparency throughout the project
  • Governance and Reporting:
    • Establish and maintain project governance routines including steering committee updates, RAID tracking, and executive reporting
    • Ensure consistent use of PMO tools, templates, and methodologies to maintain transparency and accountability
    • Drive compliance with financial tracking, capitalization, and resource planning processes
    • Support portfolio-level visibility through status reporting and integrated roadmap updates
  • Financial and Resource Management:
    • Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and variance reports
    • Collaborate with Finance and PMO leadership on capitalization tracking, contractor utilization, and capacity planning
    • Ensure effective allocation and optimization of internal and external resources
  • Change Management and Continuous Improvement:
    • Partner with business and technology teams to define change management strategies ensuring adoption and sustainability
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to continuous PMO maturity
    • Document lessons learned and share best practices across the organization
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure project deliverables meet quality and compliance standards
    • Implement quality control processes and review checkpoints throughout delivery
Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, Preferred

Work Experience

  • 5–8 years of IT Project Management experience, Required
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional project teams through all phases of the project lifecycle, Required
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects with varying scope and complexity, Required
  • Hands-on experience with multiple software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid), Required
  • Strong working knowledge of Smartsheet for project planning, dashboards, and portfolio reporting, as well as Atlassian Jira and Confluence for tracking and collaboration, Required
  • Experience with projects implemented on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), Preferred
  • Experience in the restaurant, retail, or food service industry, Preferred
  • Prior experience driving governance processes, financial tracking, and resource capacity planning, Preferred
  • Exposure to enterprise technology transformations such as POS modernization, data platform enablement, or digital ordering solutions, Preferred

  • Strong analytical and financial acumen with experience in cost-benefit analysis, ROI evaluation, and forecasting
  • Skilled in risk management, problem-solving, and decision-making in complex delivery environments
  • Experience preparing executive-level summaries and dashboards to communicate project health and value
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members to enhance performance and capability
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Project, Excel, Visio, and SharePoint

Certifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Required
  • Agile or Scrum Master certification (e.g., CSM, PMI-ACP), Preferred
