What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Help/Support + Instructor in Training position at Gotham Archery Baton Rouge?
Do you love performing, improv, or just making people feel welcome the second they walk in? If you're an outgoing nerd (all of us here are!) who wants a job that's actually engaging, keep reading.
We're looking for people to join our team as instructors-in-training — no archery or axe throwing experience required. We'll teach you the bow (and axe) stuff. What we can't teach is charisma, warmth, and genuine enthusiasm — that part's on you.
What you'll do
- Greet and welcome customers, making every visit feel personal
- Train to support and eventually lead our archery and axe throwing classes
- Learn the sport hands-on (a real interest in archery or axe throwing is a must)
- Answer phones, keep the space clean and organized during training downtime
- Already experienced? Let us know — we can fast-track your training (see "Good to Know")
Who we want
- Warm, quick on your feet, and great with people — in person and on the phone
- Reliably on time, every time (the show doesn't wait)
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Caring; many of our youth are the shy type and don't realize how awesome they are. We want the people who can bring out their confidence
- Bonus points if you bring energy, humor, and can make an ordinary afternoon feel like opening night
Not the right fit if you:
- Are uncomfortable striking up conversations with people you don't know
- Aren't self-motivated or need frequent reminders to stay on task
- Don't have any activities or interests you're genuinely passionate about
Schedule — we're hiring multiple people to cover shifts across:
- Tuesday–Friday, 1:00 PM–7:30 PM
- Saturday, 11:30 AM–7:30 PM
- Sunday, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM
Benefits
- Clearly defined bonuses for performance
- Gratuity: while not a tipped position, instructors receive guaranteed gratuity for events
Good to know
- Peak season runs September through January — expect limited time off during this window. Keep this in mind if you're an experienced archer
- Offers of employment are contingent on passing a background and drug screening, given the nature of the work (supervising children and handling bows/arrows)
