TOSA/Literacy Coach (k-4)
POSITION PURPOSE: The TOSA/Literacy Coach is a dual-role leadership position designed to increase the effectiveness of K-4 instruction through the Science of Reading and Cognitive Science. This individual serves as a critical bridge between administrative operations and classroom excellence, providing student-centered coaching, leading Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and supporting school-wide Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). The TOSA/Literacy Coach primary role is to analyze student data and create an academic achievement plan for the school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instructional Leadership & Literacy Expertise
- Science of Reading & Learning: Lead the adoption of evidence-based literacy practices aligned with the Science of Reading and the broader Science of Learning/Cognitive Science to meet the needs of all students.
- Student-Centered Coaching: Conduct mini and full coaching cycles that target student outcomes, including co-planning, modeling lessons, and team teaching with career teachers.
- Professional Development: Plan, facilitate, and oversee team meetings and PLC sessions focused on high-quality instructional practices and the use of formative assessment data.
- Data-Driven Instruction: Analyze classroom and school-wide student data to drive instructional decisions, set achievement goals, and monitor student learning outcomes weekly.
Administrative & School Support
- Assistant to the Principal: Assume responsibility for building operations during the principal's absence and represent the principal in IEP meetings when they are unavailable.
- MTSS & Behavior Support: Implement and monitor school-wide behavioral expectations; create student behavior contracts and address safety and welfare issues in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Supervision: Supervise classified employees by assigning and directing work, evaluating performance, and resolving issues.
- Instructional Expertise: Deep understanding of Cognitive Science principles and the ability to support instructional rigor.
- System Alignment: Collaborate with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) to develop and implement school improvement plans and ensure alignment with Indiana State Standards.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Indiana Teacher’s License in the appropriate subject area and/or grade level(s)
- Must possess the Literacy Endorsement from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE)
- Valid Indiana Administrative License (or current enrollment in an administrative license program) preferred.
- Successful classroom instruction and management
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Teaching Background: Minimum of five years of teaching experience with evidence of outstanding student achievement.
- Leadership: Excellent communication skills and a proven understanding of how to facilitate professional growth in adults.
- Differentiated Support: Ability to utilize EL, Special Education, and High Ability strategies when planning and implementing quality instruction.
WORK CALENDAR: School year – 184 days 10 additional days; 40 hours per week
SALARY: Teaching Contract – 184 days 10 additional days
