Aviation Instructor
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Aviation Program Instructor is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum that prepares high school students for careers in aviation, including aircraft maintenance, aviation technology, and related fields. This position will inspire students through real-world applications, industry-aligned instruction, and career-focused experiences while supporting the mission of the Red Hawk Flight Paths CTE Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on aviation curriculum aligned with industry standards, dual credits and certification.
- Provide instruction in foundational aviation concepts, including aircraft systems, safety procedures, tools, and maintenance practices
- Create a safe, structured, and professional lab environment with a strong emphasis on safety protocols
- Build and maintain partnerships with industry professionals, postsecondary institutions (e.g., Ivy Tech), and local aviation organizations
- Support students in earning dual credits, industry certifications, and work-based learning opportunities
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and promote student success
- Track student progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff
- Collaborate with CTE staff to align programming with other FlightPath opportunities and career pathways
- Promote the aviation program through recruitment events, community outreach, and student showcases
- Supervise students in both classroom and lab settings, ensuring appropriate use of tools and equipment
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to obtain appropriate Indiana CTE teaching licensure or workplace specialist permit
- Demonstrated knowledge of aviation, mechanical systems, or related technical field
- Ability to pass required background checks
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in aviation maintenance, aviation technology, military aviation, or related field preferred
- FAA certifications (e.g., A&P – Airframe & Powerplant) strongly preferred or willingness to obtain
- Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience preferred
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Passion for working with high school students and preparing them for career success
- Ability to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences
- Commitment to safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement
WORK CALENDAR: School year - 184 days per year; 40 hours per week
SALARY: Teaching Contract – 184 days
