Purchasing Agent – Dayton, OH

The Schaefer Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent to join our Dayton, Ohio team. This is a full-time, on-site role supporting procurement operations for custom industrial furnace systems and manufacturing projects.
We are looking for a detail-oriented purchasing professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and can manage vendors, inventory, and purchasing processes efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Issue and process purchase orders for materials, inventory, shop supplies, and equipment
- Monitor open purchase orders and ensure timely delivery
- Follow up with vendors regarding pricing, lead times, and order status
- Coordinate with Receiving to resolve discrepancies or shipment issues
- Negotiate pricing and delivery terms with suppliers
- Track and analyze purchasing costs
- Maintain vendor records and documentation within ERP system
- Support inventory control and supply chain efficiency
- Provide backup support for Purchasing Buyer as needed
- Minimum 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience
- Experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments preferred
- Strong knowledge of purchase order processing and vendor management
- Experience with ERP systems (Great Plains preferred)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- High school diploma or GED required
- Inventory management and cost analysis
- Vendor contract negotiation
- Familiarity with accounting and supply chain processes
