Position Summary
The Cellar Assistant is responsible for monitoring and assisting with the operation of potato storage facilities to ensure stored potatoes remain in optimal condition throughout the storage season. This position regularly inspects cellars, monitors environmental conditions, records storage data, identifies potential issues, and communicates concerns to management. The Cellar Assistant plays an important role in maintaining product quality and minimizing storage losses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Conduct routine inspections of potato storage cellars and related facilities.
· Monitor and record temperature, humidity, airflow, CO2 levels, and other storage conditions.
· Verify ventilation, refrigeration, humidification, and control systems are operating properly.
· Collect and maintain accurate storage records and logs.
· Monitor potato condition, including shrink, pressure bruising, rot, sprouting, and disease concerns.
· Identify and report equipment malfunctions, alarms, or abnormal cellar conditions.
· Assist with adjusting cellar settings as directed by management.
· Monitor and document pile temperatures and storage trends.
· Ensure fans, vents, louvers, sensors, and monitoring equipment are functioning properly.
· Assist with cellar loading and unloading operations when necessary.
· Maintain cleanliness and organization within cellar facilities.
· Perform routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs as assigned.
· Communicate storage concerns promptly to supervisors.
· Follow all food safety, workplace safety, and company policies.
· Assist with other farm and warehouse operations during non-storage periods.
Required Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
· Valid driver's license.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Basic computer and recordkeeping skills.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience working in potato storage facilities.
· Agricultural or farm experience.
· Familiarity with ventilation and environmental control systems.
· Experience using monitoring software and electronic control systems.
· Mechanical aptitude.

Working Conditions

· Occasional work around moving equipment and machinery.
Physical Requirements
· Frequently walk, climb stairs, and inspect storage areas.
· Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Bend, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders as needed.
· Work in varying temperatures and environmental conditions.
· Ability to safely access elevated monitoring equipment and control systems.
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
