Job Summary
The Railroad Permitting Specialist will work with an infrastructure engineering firm on railroad permitting and transmission line projects. This is an onsite position based at the client's office located at Morristown, NJ with no remote or hybrid work available.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with project managers, design engineers, environmental consultants, GIS mapping specialists, and real estate coordinators to prepare permit applications for railroad permitting to facilitate construction impacts related to transmission line and substation expansion projects
- Complete and submit permit applications, and pursue application through timeframe until permit is issued or authorized
- Obtain permitting authorizations for all crossings related to linear transmission line projects, including but not limited to: railroad crossings and turnpike crossings
- Obtain entry and access permits
- Support environmental permitting tasks if requested
- Support fiber and communication permitting tasks if requested
- Interact with construction contractors for electrical transmission lines, fiber, road building, foundations, geotechnical, survey, and restoration with respect to permitting needs and understand railroad permitting compliance
- Support Client needs as directed
- Assist with document research
- Provide assistance to client on electrical distribution projects

Education Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science or a related natural science degree from an accredited program (with minimum 4 years performing environmental and permitting studies, preparing permitting applications, and analyzing environmental data for various environmental impact projects) required, OR
- Master Degree in Environmental Science or a related natural science degree from an accredited program (with minimum 3 years performing environmental and permitting studies, preparing permitting applications, and analyzing environmental data for various environmental impact projects) required
- Valid Driver's License required
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
- Must be able to pass required drug screen and background check (including DMV/MVR check) prior to starting
- Must clear the First Energy background check prior to starting (completion typically takes 4–6 weeks)
- Driving is required for this position
