The Airport Shuttle Bus Mechanic & Fleet Maintenance Technician performs skilled mechanical maintenance, diagnostics, inspections, and repairs on a fleet of airport shuttle buses to ensure safe, reliable, and fully compliant operation. This role combines full‑service mechanic responsibilities with daily fleet readiness tasks, including PMIs, DVIR management, triage, refueling, and vehicle cleanliness. A valid CDL Class B with Passenger endorsement is required to conduct road tests, move equipment, and verify repairs under real operating conditions.

Key Responsibilities

Preventive Maintenance & Daily Readiness

  • Perform routine oil checks, fluid checks, and Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMI) on all shuttle buses.
  • Conduct daily fleet inspections, including tire pressure, tread wear, fluid levels, and safety‑critical components.
  • Complete scheduled PM services, safety checks, and component replacements to maintain vehicle longevity and compliance.
  • Maintain all vehicles to Global Parking Solutions standards and contractual requirements for safety, reliability, and passenger comfort.

Skilled Mechanical Diagnostics & Repairs

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, HVAC, and brake systems on gas‑powered shuttle bus engines and related components.
  • Troubleshoot drivability issues, engine performance concerns, and electronic system faults using diagnostic tools and manuals.
  • Perform quality maintenance inspections and repairs on all assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct DOT‑compliant inspections and maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.

DVIR Management & Compliance

  • Review Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) daily, identify defects, and perform required repairs.
  • Sign off and clear DVIRs once issues are resolved, ensuring compliance with DOT and company standards.
  • Maintain documentation in accordance with OSHA, DOT, and internal fleet safety requirements.
  • Road Testing, Field Repairs & Operational Support Road‑test vehicles before and after repairs to verify safe operation (CDL required).
  • Respond to breakdowns, perform field repairs, and support fleet uptime during peak airport operations.
  • Perform minor, quick‑fix repairs directly on‑site at the parking garage to minimize downtime.
  • Identify vehicles requiring major repairs and route them to the main maintenance shop.

Shop Organization, Safety & Inventory

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Assist with parts identification, inventory management, and communication of repair timelines.
  • Perform all maintenance duties in a safe, efficient, and cost‑effective manner.

Vehicle Readiness & Porter Duties

  • Perform daily refueling of all shuttle buses prior to shift change to ensure vehicles are ready for service.
  • Clean the interior and exterior of vehicles as needed to maintain a professional, sanitary appearance.
  • Support fleet presentation standards to ensure a positive passenger experience.

Cross‑Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with dispatch, operations, and safety teams to ensure buses are ready for service.
  • Communicate repair needs, timelines, and vehicle status clearly and professionally.

Required Qualifications

(All qualifications are required; none are optional.)

  • Valid CDL Class B with Passenger endorsement.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Medical Card).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a gas‑powered engine mechanic for shuttle buses, transit vehicles, or similar fleet equipment.
  • Strong diagnostic skills with gas engines, transmissions, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, HVAC, and braking systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic reports.
  • Experience with DOT, OSHA, and fleet safety standards.
  • Experience with airport shuttle fleets, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles.
  • ASE certifications in Medium/Heavy Truck or Transit Bus (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Familiarity with ADA equipment, wheelchair lifts, and onboard electronics.
  • Must provide necessary hand tools to perform maintenance duties.
  • Ability to lift 50–100 lbs and work in outdoor or shop environments.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, write simple correspondence, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including 2nd, 3rd, and weekends as needed.
  • Must maintain a neat, clean appearance and complete uniform at all times.

Physical Demands

  • Regular standing, walking, reaching, and handling tools and equipment.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing, or balancing.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to talk and hear clearly to communicate with drivers, dispatch, and team members.
