Job Summary
The Battery Management System (BMS) Validation Engineer is responsible for the verification and validation of BMS functionalities using Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation platforms, specifically dSPACE systems. This role involves developing and executing test strategies to ensure the performance, safety, and reliability of battery systems used in electric and hybrid vehicles. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to validate control algorithms, diagnose system issues, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, configure, and maintain HIL test setups using dSPACE platforms (e.g., SCALEXIO, ControlDesk).
- Design and execute comprehensive validation test cases for BMS functionalities, including charging, discharging, protection, and fault handling.
- Perform validation of key BMS algorithms such as State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), and cell balancing.
- Create and maintain plant models to simulate battery behavior (electrical and thermal characteristics).
- Conduct fault injection testing to evaluate system robustness and safety mechanisms.
- Analyze test results, identify discrepancies, and perform root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with software, hardware, and system engineering teams for issue resolution and system improvements.
- Automate test procedures using scripting tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
- Ensure compliance with automotive safety and quality standards such as ISO 26262.
- Document validation processes, test reports, and results for internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with HIL testing and dSPACE tools (SCALEXIO, MicroAutoBox, ControlDesk).
- Strong understanding of Battery Management Systems and lithium-ion battery technology.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for model-based development and simulation.
- Knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, or Ethernet.
- Familiarity with embedded systems and real-time simulation environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in electric vehicle (EV) or energy storage systems domain.
- Knowledge of AUTOSAR architecture.
- Understanding of functional safety concepts (ISO 26262).
- Experience in test automation frameworks and continuous integration tools.
- Programming skills in C/C or Python.
