What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Program Specialist position at GIRL SCOUTS OF EASTERN MISSOURI INC?
Implement and supervise a variety of camp programming and activities including crafts, games, nature, archery, swimming, and boating on-site at camp. Normal work hours are Saturdays year round and optional weekdays in the summer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Implementation and supervision of activities such as crafts, nature and various other activities
- Coaches archery activities to give campers the opportunity to increase skills and achieve their personal best; adapts archery to the ages and skill abilities of campers to ensure safety and accomplishment
- Assists with the plans and preparations of lake and pool activities that ensure fun, safe, age appropriate, challenging and creative programming for campers
- Monitors activities to ensure that all established health and safety standards are followed by participants; maintains compliance with Girl Scouts of the USA, Red Cross, American Camp Association and Council health and safety standards and procedures; supports and positively interprets camp rules to campers
- Plans and prepares for creative and fun inclement weather alternatives for swimming and boating
- Serves as a positive role model and ambassador for camp
- Inventories and prepares program areas to ensure that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained and kept in order throughout the camp season
- Establishes and maintains good relationships with girls and adults
- Attends and participates in trainings as required
- Assists in implementing closing of daily operations, and assumes responsibility for cleaning, inventory, and storage of supplies, equipment and facilities
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum age of 18
- Experience working with children, strongly preferred
- Holds or is willing to obtain archery certification or equivalent
- Ability to lead, communicate effectively be adaptable and demonstrate a positive attitude
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Holds or is willing to obtain the following certifications:
- Current American Red Cross Adult/Child CPR/AED
- Current American Red Cross First Aid
- Current Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri Lifeguard In-service
- Small Craft Safety- Canoeing
- Current USA Level 1 Archery
- Current Range Safety Officer
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent:
- is frequently required to talk and hear, stand and walk, sit and use hands to manipulate and feel
- is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms
- must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- must have the following vision abilities: close vision, distance vision and depth perception
EXPOSURES
Work is performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dirt and/or dust.
